HBO Max unveils first teaser for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe
HBO Max has released the first official teaser for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the upcoming Big Bang Theory spin-off centered on Kevin Sussman’s Stuart Bloom.
The teaser was unveiled Wednesday during Warner Bros. Discovery's Upfront presentation in New York, where Sussman was joined by co-stars Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie. The streaming service also confirmed that the 10-episode first season will premiere Thursday, July 23 at 9 p.m. ET, with new episodes released weekly on Thursdays.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe finds Stuart dealing with the fallout after he accidentally breaks a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, setting off a multiverse catastrophe. As Stuart tries to restore reality, he is joined by his girlfriend Denise (Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Posehn) and physicist and resident pain-in-the-ass Barry Kripke (Bowie). The gang will encounter alternate-universe versions of familiar Big Bang Theory characters as they move through different realities.
The teaser begins at the Comic Center of Pasadena, where a hooded figure enters the store and reveals himself to be Bert. After Stuart asks what it is like outside, the footage cuts to scenes of apocalyptic chaos before Bert offers the understated verdict: "I think there's room for improvement."
From there, the teaser jumps through some of the show's stranger realities, including giant bugs, devastated war zones, a version of South Pasadena ruled by Kripke, and a wormhole. One version of Stuart is seen trying to explain how the "apocalyptic nightmare" can still be avoided.
The teaser also shows Stuart finding a copy of a Stuart Fails to Save the Universe comic book in his own store. One of the comic's panels shows Sheldon, Leonard and Howard with the "Vari-state Quantum Entanglement" device that appears to be at the center of the crisis.
The series is created, written and executive produced by Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, along with Zak Penn, whose credits include The Avengers and Ready Player One.
