Ramona Nowitzki

Ramona Nowitzki is a physicist and former Caltech graduate student who developed an intense admiration for Sheldon Cooper and his work.

After Ramona attended one of Sheldon’s lectures, she began inserting herself into his life. Although Sheldon initially appreciated having someone keep him focused, Ramona soon became overbearing, stopping him from enjoying distractions such as comic books, television and paintball. Ramona was hostile to Sheldon’s friends when she believed they were interfering with his work. She pushed Leonard and the others away and treated Penny as a romantic rival.

Her pressure helped Sheldon make progress on his research, but their arrangement ended when she suggested they share credit on the resulting paper. Years later, Ramona returned to Caltech after working at CERN and started spending time with Sheldon while Amy was away at Princeton. When Sheldon realized Ramona might be romantically interested in him, he left for New Jersey and proposed to Amy.

 Stuart Fails to Save the Universe history

When we meet Ramona in 102 “Spoiler: Zack’s in This One”, she is working at Caltech’s reception desk in a reality where an AI overlord punishes negative emotions using shock implants. Unlike Stuart, Bert and Kripke, who are new to this world, Ramona appears to have mastered the rules of this reality, maintaining a bright, helpful tone while offering no real assistance.

When Bert and Kripke ask to see Sheldon Cooper or Leonard Hofstadter, Ramona cheerfully asks whether they have an appointment, confirming that Sheldon and Leonard work at Caltech in this universe. She tells them they can make one, just not through her, and says they would need to contact Sheldon and Leonard’s personal assistants, whose numbers she cannot provide. Her cheerful delivery keeps her safely within the AI overlord’s emotional boundaries while pushing Kripke closer to frustration.

Kripke struggles to stay calm as Ramona’s polite obstruction continues. When he explains that Sheldon and Leonard built a special device, Ramona recognizes them as the sort of scientists who could have done so, but still offers no real help in getting Bert and Kripke to them. When Kripke tries to explain that the device may have caused the universe to collapse and regrow, Ramona focuses on his pronunciation of “regrow” until he snaps and is shocked again.

After Bert takes charge of the conversation, he tells Ramona he used to work in this building in another universe, in the geology department. She explains that the geology department has been moved elsewhere to make room for the “important sciences”. Her comment finally provokes Bert into raising his voice, causing him to be shocked for the first time. As Bert and Kripke writhe on the floor, Ramona calmly returns to work.

When we meet Ramona again in the telepathic reality of 107 “Spoiler: Dexys Midnight Runners Get a Royalty Payment”, she is once again working as a receptionist at Caltech, this time in the engineering department. Stuart and his companions arrive hoping to find aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz.

Kripke thinks that Ramona smells just like his mother, prompting her to shoot him a cool look and ask, “I’m sorry?” When he silently replies, “You heard me,” Ramona gives him a devilish grin, while Stuart pleads, “Please stop thinking.”

After checking her computer, Ramona tells Stuart that no one named Howard Wolowitz appears in her system. When he asks whether she is sure, she offers to check again, but thinks, “I’m not really checking again. Just trying to be polite.” She repeats that she has no record of Howard, and Stuart asks for a moment to confer with his companions. Ramona assures them that she will be there, before thinking that she will be working until she drops dead because she married a drummer and the job is their only source of health insurance.

When the group returns another day with the quantum device, Stuart’s companions mentally sing “Come On Eileen” to conceal their true intentions. Stuart explains that they heard the song in the car and describes it as an earworm. Ramona says she gets those all the time, then begins mentally singing Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind”, bringing tears to her eyes.

After regaining her composure, Ramona asks how she can help. Stuart assumes that she remembers their previous visit, but her thoughts reveal that she is taking so much medication that she does not remember anything. Aloud, she claims to remember them and tells Stuart it is nice to see them again. Stuart lies and tells her that David Saltzberg at UCLA asked them to bring the device to the engineering lab. Ramona accepts the story and directs them upstairs and down the hall.

In the comic book reality of 109 “Spoiler: We Couldn't Get Green Lantern”, Ramona Nowitzki is a Gotham Air gate attendant at Archie Goodwin Airport, where Stuart and his companions are waiting for a delayed flight to Central City to seek the Flash’s help.

Over the P.A., Ramona announces good news and bad news: the maintenance issue has been resolved, but the crew has now timed out, leaving passengers waiting for a backup crew to arrive. She announces the airline is handing out ten-dollar meal vouchers, adding her own warning: “Pro tip, avoid the airport sushi.” Hearing this only makes Denise want sushi, which results in a hurried trip to the bathroom. As their wait continues, Kripke questions how sitting for hours in an airport constitutes a story in an action-packed comic book.
