Kevin Sussman
Kevin Sussman is an American actor and comedian best known for his roles as Stuart Bloom on The Big Bang Theory and Walter on Ugly Betty.
Sussman grew up in Staten Island, New York, and graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
His early TV appearances include guest spots on Law & Order, The Sopranos, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and ER. In 2006, he had a recurring role as Walter, Betty Suarez’s boyfriend, on the ABC comedy-drama Ugly Betty.
Sussman first appeared on The Big Bang Theory during its second season as Stuart Bloom, the owner of the Comic Center of Pasadena. He made fifteen guest appearances through the end of the fifth season. He was first promoted to the main cast during season six, and later became a series regular from seasons eight through twelve. In total, he appeared in 84 episodes.
In Jessica Radloff’s oral history of The Big Bang Theory, it was revealed that the role of Howard Wolowitz was originally written with Sussman in mind, after he had earlier auditioned for the role of Leonard Hofstadter. However, Sussman was still under contract with ABC for Ugly Betty, and the role of Howard eventually went to Simon Helberg.
Since The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, Sussman has appeared in The Dropout, Better Call Saul, Call Me Kat and Lessons in Chemistry. He now reprises his role of Stuart Bloom in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.
On film, Sussman has appeared in Liberty Heights, Almost Famous, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Sweet Home Alabama, Hitch and Burn After Reading.
