Tied to a stake above a burning pyre, Bert desperately calls for rain. A downpour immediately begins directly above him and extinguishes the fire. Believing that Bert controls the heavens, the previously murderous mob bows before him.
In the comic book store, Denise tries to understand how she came to be traveling through realities with Stuart. He explains that another version of himself sent him to restore the universe he was supposed to inhabit, then assumes that he and Denise are back together. Denise reminds him that she never had a relationship with either him or her reality’s Stuart. He claims she is confusing her memories with his, but Denise finds the entire situation insane and leaves to get a drink, reminding Stuart that this version of Denise has a problem with alcohol.
Elsewhere, Bert tells the now-friendly mob that he controls every kind of precipitation. When they question whether he is allied with a demon, Bert explains that he simply asks nicely. He demonstrates with another shower.
At a bar, where the bartender pours drinks without even touching the bottles, Denise tells him that Stuart expects to resume the relationship he had with another version of her. Although magic is ordinary to him, the bartender regards her story about multiple universes as drunken rambling and conjures a plate of deviled eggs to help sober her up.
At a party in an elegant hillside home, Bert uses his new powers to change a regular Coke into Diet Coke and then Dr Pepper. Asked whether he can create life, he conjures a puppy and immediately house-trains it. When a woman asks whether his magic works in the bedroom, Bert replies, “I don't need magic in the bedroom. I'm a good listener.”
Back at the comic book store, Kripke returns after abandoning Bert to the mob, claiming that he has been looking everywhere for Stuart. When Stuart asks whether they should be worried about Bert, Kripke gets Stuart to admit that he was not worried about him. Kripke wants to leave this universe, but Stuart thinks it is not such a bad world and refuses to go without Bert or Denise. Kripke argues that Bert can look after himself and that Stuart can find another Denise in another universe. He tries to activate the vari-state quantum interference device, but realizes that a world unconstrained by the laws of physics might require magic to make it work. When Stuart invokes Alexa while wishing they could search for a wizard, a tracksuit-wearing demon appears on the counter and provides a list. Kripke recognizes a familiar name: Bernadette Rostenkowski, a highly rated master sorceress.
Increasingly drunk at the bar, Denise tells another patron that the Stuart she knew was timid, whereas this Stuart takes her from universe to universe and always manages to find her, even if it’s a different version of her. She begins to wonder whether his persistence amounts to love. After the patron escapes the conversation, Denise spots this universe’s Gary. He does not recognize her, despite her memories of their six-year marriage in the AI-controlled world.
Stuart and Kripke find Bernadette eating ice cream and watching television in an otherwise ordinary suburban home. She recognizes them and reluctantly lets them inside before returning to the couch. Bernadette explains that she was once a renowned sorceress, but the Wizards Guild of America stripped her of her powers after she used magic during a strike. She claims she did so to resurrect her neighbor’s son’s dog and says that the blood of an innocent could restore her abilities. Kripke quickly rules himself out, while Bernadette decides that Stuart’s limited romantic history makes him a viable candidate.
As Stuart and Kripke walk back from Bernadette’s house, they realize they need a backup plan in case his blood does not restore her powers. The tracksuit-wearing Alexa tells them that Sheldon Cooper is starring in a Broadway revival of Man of La Mancha, meaning they will never get him to help. As they return to the comic book store, called The Wizard’s Sleeve in this universe, they fail to notice newspaper headlines addressed directly to Stuart.
Inside the store, Stuart is relieved to find Bert waiting for them, but Kripke immediately tries to flee. Bert conjures a brick wall across the exit and transforms Kripke into a penguin. Kripke apologizes for abandoning Bert to the mob, blaming peer pressure, but Bert has reached the limit of his usual good nature. He even considers turning Kripke into a maggot, prompting Kripke to decide that he is happy to remain a penguin. Outside, a crowd of Bert’s acolytes worship him through the window.
A caped Wil Wheaton emerges from a fiery portal and accuses Stuart of enabling a demon by giving Bernadette his blood. Acting on behalf of the Wizards Guild of America, Wheaton declares that Stuart must be destroyed and throws a fireball at him. Bert catches it and warns, “Don't throw magic fireballs at my friend.” He hurls it back, beginning a magical battle as Stuart and Penguin Kripke take cover behind the counter.
When Denise returns during the fight, Stuart invites her to join him and Penguin Kripke behind the counter, where he explains the situation. Wheaton summons an octopus from a tattoo on his arm, which Bert counters with a giant shark. Elsewhere, Bernadette adds Stuart’s blood to a red potion above a cauldron and begins to transform: her eyes turn red, her skin changes color and horns poke out of her head as she grows in size.
Back at the store, Wheaton insists that he is trying to save the world, but Bert refuses to let him threaten Stuart. Bert channels his power into Wheaton, setting him on fire. As the flames consume him, Wheaton warns them that Bernadette is a real demon before vanishing. With the fight over, Bert worries that he went too far, but Stuart reassures him that Wheaton started it. Believing the danger has passed, a relieved Denise hugs Stuart. When he asks why, she tells him, “Maybe you're great. Maybe there is something here.” Delighted, Bert conjures a heart-shaped frame of red roses around them as they kiss. Penguin Kripke, panicking by the door, draws their attention outside.
Now five stories high, a green, horned Bernadette rampages through Pasadena. Her sweet manner briefly resurfaces when she compliments a woman’s shoes before pulling her from an apartment building and dropping her to the street. Bernadette crushes Bert’s acolytes, tears into the comic book store and demands the vari-state quantum interference device so she can rule every world. A panicked Stuart urges Bert to get the machine working so they can escape. Bert does not know how to repair it but tries a series of simple commands while Stuart operates the controls. As Bernadette reaches for the machine, it activates and transports Stuart, Denise, Bert and Penguin Kripke through another wormhole.
In the day room of a psychiatric hospital, patients are painting and completing puzzles as a nurse hands out medication. Stuart sits blankly at a table until a nurse brings him his pills and compliments his artwork. After taking the medication, Stuart looks down at his drawing of himself, Denise, Bert and Penguin Kripke gathered around the vari-state quantum interference device in the comic book store. “Oh, this is not good.”
